Writing

In 2008 and 2010 I launched the websites Logo Design Love and Identity Designed (ID) as a way to share interesting design work and resources. Out of the blue, that led to publishing deals to write and design their accompanying books.

The Logo Design Love book was published in 2009. Translated into thirteen languages, and released as an expanded edition (2014), it’s recommended on college design programmes around the world.

The ID book was published in 2019, and in the words of Adobe’s principal designer, Khoi Vinh, it’s “not just beautifully designed, but also beautiful in its depth and detail about the identity design process.”

My newest book, Identity Designed: The Process, was published in 2024. Using case studies from around the world it focuses on the four stages of a visual identity project—research, strategy, design, and implementation.

Client testimonials

David’s knowledge and understanding of branding is exceptional. I first shared my thoughts in what can best be described as a stream of consciousness, and he magically conjured them into a powerful brand identity. I asked for both emotional and professional—it’s spot on. The process itself was also communicative, streamlined and enjoyable. I’d recommend David in a heartbeat.

Jessica Wiegand, Director, 4BM

We had been looking for a graphic designer for several months, but the previous ones I spoke to never met our taste. Finally, when I discovered David through a Google search, it appeared likely that such a passionate designer would be the partner we had been looking for—which became obvious as soon as we started working together. After reviewing our requirements, David sent us a few proposals and, taking great care, created numerous modifications. Most importantly, each modification introduced that special detail that makes all the difference.

Dominique Berthier, President, Berthier Associates

David’s combination of creativity and professionalism was exactly what we needed. Our team had strong opinions on the project. David was able to take their feedback on board and steer us toward an outcome we are proud of.

Dr Richard Tipper, Executive Chairman, Ecometrica

We wanted a logo with a touch of modernism. David grasped our needs and produced a stunning design. When feedback was needed, new versions or modifications were made very quickly. We greatly appreciated David’s flexibility and efficiency, and it was excellent to work with someone so open-minded and responsive.

Cyrille Ehrhart, Director, Henri Ehrhart

David is considerate, attentive, and a brilliant guide through the murky world of logo creation. I now have a unique logo that I am immensely proud of, and I recommend David if you seek that yourself.

Sarah Wallace, Founder, Proprietary Insights

David came back to us with one identity design that perfectly embodied our brief. I don’t think I have ever seen something get unanimous approval in this business, but we all agreed without a single change required—everyone loves it. David was able to understand our market and our vision, creating an identity to take us there.

Sam Barnett, Montville Coffee

Not only was David very patient with me, answering all my initial questions, but he also shared his passion for design by educating me about various design technicalities. This helped me explain the design change to my team of 40 employees, easing my decision-making along the way.

David is an inspiring designer and a excellent educator. I’m incredibly proud of my new logo, and very grateful to David.

James Pang, Founder, My Drum School

We have been very impressed by David’s ability to literally read our minds and deliver a corporate identity that perfectly symbolises our vision and conveys the stylish, elegant, and modern image we needed to sustain the international development of our company.

David Sadigh, Founder & CEO, Digital Luxury Group

We’re delighted with the outcome and the timeless nature of the lettering, with its chiselled angles and nod to classical stonemasonry. This is a superb forward direction for our brand and it has been a pleasure working with David. He nailed it.

Michael Smith, Director, Portland Stone Firms

Work with me

For anything from a subtle logo refinement to a fully bespoke visual design system, it’ll be a pleasure to talk.

An introductory email with brief details of your business will be most appreciated. Afterward we can arrange a call or if you’re in the area I’ll brew us some tea.
