Twitter lists

That Twitter thing last month? Turns out I’ve missed reading designers’ updates.

So I compiled a few Twitter lists of designers/studios/websites etc. to keep me feeling more involved. In self-employment I sometimes miss the interaction you get from working in a close-knit team, and in that respect, Twitter can be more of an involver than a time-drain (with reason).

Twitter lists @DavidAirey

They’re a work-in-progress, and I’m sure I’ve missed a few folk I regularly chat with, but I can already see the advantage of using lists rather than a single block of followed profiles — if I have less time for checking-in, I can go directly to the list of individual designers, and if I have more time available, I can also view tweets from foundries, studios, publishers, etc.

Lists are nothing new — I’m just slow on the uptake. Thanks to those who recommended the feature.

  1. I am thinking of doing the same David, my Twitter timeline is getting a bit bloated and too difficult to get involved with. I’ve heard of lists ages ago but never attempted to use them really but after reading this I will definitely be giving them a go. :) Thanks.

  2. Great to see you using lists, David (I was quite pleased to see me on there). I have 11 lists at the moment, with a couple open for viewing (such as a Designers list) – but also private ones for family, friends and bands, etc – even one for people who comment on my blog.

It’s a great way of using Twitter without getting bogged down with info overload. Great to see that you’ve found them of use…

  3. They’re worth a shot, Muneeb. I should’ve made use of them sooner.

Andrew, great idea with your list for commentators. I’ll do that. I think I understand the privacy — it’s inevitable a commentator will ask why they’re not included, but some use Twitter incessantly, and if on the list they’d drown-out everyone else. @mayhemstudios for instance. I’m sure Cal’s a real stand-up guy, but his Twitter usage is incredible. If I’d amassed 140,000+ tweets since my first that’d be 130-odd per day, every day, for three years. Twitter should be paying him.
