It’s now easier for you to comment

Those of you who have commented on my blog (thanks by the way), will notice that the comments section is no longer to the right of the article. It’s now below.
Also, the actual form to type your comment used to be situated at the top of the comment column, it now appears below any comments that have been posted.

This saves you time because you don’t have to scroll down to read my article, scroll up to the top to read the comments in the order they were posted, scroll down to read through the comments, then scroll back up top to leave a comment of your own.
There aren’t many blogs out there that utilise commenting to the right of the post, and whilst it sets you apart from the crowd, it is much more user-friendly to show comments below.
Volkher Hoffman is one blogger who also utilises the Vertigo 1.0 WordPress theme. I like Volkher because he knows how to poke fun at himself. You can read why in his blog post, You might be a German if... Those who can laugh at themselves can laugh at anything. Take the Irish for instance: How can you tell an Irishman in a car wash? He’s the one on the motorbike.
It’s now kind of strange for me reading your comments below my posts. I’m sure I’ll get used to it quickly.
Do you think it’s an improvement? I do hope so. Click here to leave me a comment.

David – people are creatures of habit you know. I didn’t mind the comments being on the right but you are right, this is easier.
It wasn’t the end of the world where it was, but this certainly appeals to my lazy side ;-)
David: the link backs you do at the end of each post for the previous posts comments are very cool & much appreciated: Are they automated, or by hand?
Two out of two for ease of commenting. Thanks Char, Chris. You’re taking the time to contribute to my site so I want to make it as easy as possible for you.
Chris, the backlinks to the previous post commenters are entered manually. It’d make a nice plugin for any WordPress plugin developers, but then that takes something human away from the ‘thank you’.
It’s different than what you had before, but it seems this is the way most blogs are so, I don’t mind it.
Not sure if it’s easier, but either way works for me :)
I like it :) Maybe because I get used to the design of comment section below the entry.
I agree with Chris. The backlinks of previous post comment is very nice.
Dinner, Jennessa, thanks for your thoughts on this.
Dinner, perhaps ‘less time-consuming’ is a better description than ‘easier’.
Yep, this works better for me as well.
And good to see the search box at top right now.
I prefer the comments down here. And now you have links to your categories on every page it offers more encouragement to browse your archives deeper. This is good because you have lots of good content hidden away.
I’m obviously the odd person out, as I really liked the comment form on the right. I liked being able to see the text I was commenting on as I posted my comment, and I feel like I have to do a lot more scrolling to read through the previous comments and then down to the comment box (all the while taking me further and further away from the original post). And, I have to admit, I always like it when things are a bit different.
Aaron, having the recent posts, most commented and category sections beside each individual article was an aspect of the change that appealed to me too.
Rachel, sorry to disappoint. :( General consensus is in favour and I’m all for democracy. I see your point about having to scroll through all the previous comments and I’m wondering how to get around this. Perhaps a link at the foot of the article leading directly to the contact form, skipping the comments, but that might detract from any conversation taking place.
I must admit, it does seem easier to use this way, though I kinda liked the comment form being on the right. Different and unique you know….. ;)
I honestly feel disoriented now. I finally found the box. Heh heh.
I am right handed…I think comments should be to the right in all blogs. ;)
Either way is fine with me. :)
Cheers for commenting, tolumi, Beth Ellen.
I’ve just installed the MyAvatars plugin so those of you with a MyBlogLog profile will get their pictures displayed beside your comment.
I think it’s a nice way to make your comment more personal. What do you think?
Nice improvement, however, I wish there were a link to just read comments (starting at the top), then at the bottom of all the comments the option to leave a comment. Maybe you already have something like that implemented and I missed it. When I selected the option to leave a comment, I was taken directly here. To read previous comments I had to scroll back up. Not a big deal but I guess I just prefer the more standard “comments” link.
Haha!
I see what you mean, Bret. Thanks. Something else for me to adjust.
Rachel, are you laughing at Bret’s face or mine? ;)
I like it too. Not just for not having to scroll after reading the post, but also because there’s a natural progression to the comment box once I’ve read the comments. Just seems like the right place. Nice work.
I just found it funny that in response to my comment you wrote, “I see your point about having to scroll through all the previous comments and I’m wondering how to get around this. Perhaps a link at the foot of the article leading directly to the contact form, skipping the comments, but that might detract from any conversation taking place.” Then Bret wrote, “When I selected the option to leave a comment, I was taken directly here. To read previous comments I had to scroll back up. Not a big deal but I guess I just prefer the more standard “comments” link.” There’s just no satisfying everyone… ;)
I wish you hadn’t added the avatar option, ’cause now I feel like I need to get one! Especially since the generic shadow avatar looks like a dude, and that just won’t do.
Okay, so I joined. Behold, da Vinci.
Dawud, I knew that that natural progression from reading to leaving a comment just wasn’t happening in the old format. Thanks for the comment.
Rachel, you’re absolutely right. You can’t please everyone. You have to do what you think is best. It’s great to have constructive criticism, but in the end everyone will have their own personal views.
It’s funny you know, I thought you’d look a lot younger (no offence).
That’s an “age enhanced” image… of me in 200 years.
Much much better! =D
I think the only thing left is the footer? Oh, and maybe you can improve the frontpage of your blog by marking clearly where posts begin and end.
I was lucky to click the right “comments” link and leave a comment here ;)
I see what you mean, ilker, about the post end and beginning not being too clearly defined.
I’ll see if I can tweak that somehow.
The site looks great ! Thanks for all your help ( past, present and future !)
