How to combat anti-smoking cigarette packaging

Marlboro cigarette packaging

Are you a smoker? Would this cigarette packaging (above) put you off smoking? I bet Marlboro are loving this government addition to their cigarette packets. Pitcure the facial expression of your date, when you calmly light up a cigarette before flipping the packet onto the table where she sits opposite. I think it’d be a little like that above.

So, what have Chinese manufacturers done to counteract such regulation? They’ve packaged lung cancer AND a brain tumour in one handy, stylish package! Hurrah!

Mobile phone cigarette packet

The smoker phone is a fully-functional mobile phone that cunningly safeguards your cigarettes from damage. No longer shall you be embarassed to offer your partner a nice post-coital smoke.

The new mobile phone design also incorporates a colour screen, MP3 player AND a digital camera. What more could you want?

We’re now waiting for the laptop / cuban cigar range to hit the high-street.

Which do you prefer – the anti- or pro-smoking packaging?

  1. The smoker phone – could they have developed a more offensive device? Now we’ll have to inhale the owners’ smoke while listening to their inane banter at the same time. The manufacturers should just go the whole hog and add a robotic arm that steals lollipops from babies ;-)

  2. I prefer designer packs.. and Camel!

  3. Oh wait.. sorry, that wasn’t your question. I think we could have an anti-smoking pack that will please smokers too!

  4. What’s all the fuss about? Very stylish cigarette cases have always been available.

And to Simon: Stuff it. You’re pretty offensive yourself, pal.

  5. Simon, thanks again for flagging that first image I used. You cover a fair amount of interesting posts over there at reaction [beta].

ilker, I looked through the Camel cigarette packet design gallery you linked to. Thanks for posting that. I enjoyed checking those out.

Ed, very true. Stylish packaging has been available for as long as cigarettes have. I thought this was just a tad over the top however.

  6. I’m anti smoking, but the pro-smoking one is kinda cool. That’s some good creativity there.

Thumbs down to smoking though :P

  7. I smoke and usually just go for the plain marlboro lights box, but that one with the rotten teeth would make me think twice before lighting up lol.

  8. I never quite understood post-coital smoking.

  9. Nor did I, Beth Ellen.

Even back in the days when I did smoke, it wasn’t something that I ever felt like doing.

  10. …I’m quitting when the ban kicks in anyway (honest).

PS, like the addition of the MyBlogLog pics to the comments – makes sense.

  11. Thanks Pinksy.

The indoor smoking ban has been enforced for about a year now here in Scotland. It’s so good to go out for a drink and not return reeking of smoke.

  12. Thank You For Smoking…

I would just like to take a few minutes and thank everyone who smokes tobacco. People just don’t understand how much hard work is put into the sale and marketing of these deadly products. It must be a tough sell. I’ve heard of selling ice to an …

  13. i stoping smoking so i am im only 15 cumming 16 in 1 day from today and i hate the thought of smoking now i wish everyone could stop and stop polluting the air disgusting xoxoxoxoxoxo lol

  14. How very ingenious! There was a plan to put pictures like that on cigarette packages here in the Netherlands, but fortunately that’s canceled now. Does anyone recognize the writing on the marlboro package? Maybe sanskrit?

  15. Being a smoker on the path to giving up (8 times so far) I can totally relate to the horrible images on the firs pic, i’ve seen them abroad and yep they definitely made me think twice..It works! Not sure I like the smoking phone, def a bit “Medallian Man” if you know what I mean!

  16. I am a smoker, like all other smokers I know the risks of smoking and yet I still smoke. Instead of saying the same old things over and over (like I didn’t understand the first time) let’s do something about this problem. I have developed a cigarette pack that you can plug into your USB port on your home computer and click on specific times over a 24 hour period that you want the pack to open. Although this may seem like another gimmick, it’s not. All smokers smoke out of habit, What my pack does is break that habit. If you just extend the time between cigarettes each week eventually your dependancy will be gone. Like all of the other nay sayers I will admit that if someone really wanted a cigarette they could break the pack open and get one, you have to want to quit for any tobacco ceccasion devise to work.

  17. Good luck to all of you who are attempting to quit. It’s an extremely important decision to make.

  18. That is absolutely awful! My sister’s a heavy smoker an I’m sure she’d LOVE the ’smoker phone’. Birthday present sorted!
