How to advertise running shoes

“Man boobs. They really suck.”

I enjoyed this running shoes advertisement from Nike.

I’m also liking the improved YouTube functionality after you view their movies. If you’ve already watched the short video clip above you’ll be seeing related videos in thumbnail version below it, along with a star rating out of five. Quite a nice little feature.

You can read more about Nike’s ‘Not a Runner’ ad campaign over at Avertolog (great advertising resource).

I’m going for a run later…

…in my Adidas.

  1. Hey David;

    Cool ad!

Hey, your site was having some 500 errors when I was trying to comment.

A question: I use WordPress and have a hell of a time getting YouTube videos to paste into my blog posts. Any tips? It seems the editor always strips away some important code.

    Mike

  2. Hi Mike,

Really sorry about the 500 server errors.

I’ve had an article on Digg’s frontpage for two days now and my web host has restricted access on my shared server. Please bear with me for a while.

I used to have a few issues embedding YouTube clips, and fixed the problem by publishing the post straight after the copy and paste i.e. not pressing ’save and continue editing’ or ’save’ (which stripped code like you say).

Since those early problems however, WordPress is now accepting the code even with a save before publish. I can’t say for sure why it’s still happening with you, as you’re on version 2.1.3, but next time give my tip a shot and let me know if it helps. I hope so.

  3. Great advert. I would love to work on concepts for ads that that with huge budgets - ah… I can dream

  4. That is indeed a great ad.

Yeah, I’m liking that interface to. Really speeds things up.

  5. David, what a hoot that commercial is! And my husband snorted his soda when he heard the line, because he’s a Seinfeld fan (still) and loves the episode where George tries to market the “Man-ssiere,” aka the “Bro.”

  6. Keep those thoughts, Tara. If you want it enough I’m sure you’ll get it.

    Rob,

I only just noticed the change in YouTube’s videos, and wouldn’t have mentioned it had it not prompted me to view a couple more. It’s pretty cool.

    Tammy,

That’s funny your husband snorting. Thanks for painting that picture. ;)

Seinfeld’s a good show though it’s not shown much here in Scotland. I just noticed that you participated in The Face Behind The Blog. Great! I’ll add you to the original list.

  7. Thanks for passing that on. I’m always on the lookout for good examples of viral marketing thru youtube. Hadn’t seen that one yet :)

  8. Is that cover flow, as in iTunes, at the end of the video? I guess Google (YouTube) and Apple really do have a close partnership. Very slick design feature indeed. Oh, and I hate man boobs as well :)

  9. Man boobs…does that go with man-scaping? I used to think I liked men with some hair, but after 37 years of it falling out..lol. ;)

Have a great weekend David! My husband is going fishing out on the ocean at Westport, WA, so will have a quiet Sat. night. Just me and the cat, a bowl of ice cream and some good videos.

  12. Awesome. I remember being teased about my “moobs” as a kid. Now I do try to run a couple times a week!

  13. James,

I’m not sure about cover flow, but it does seem they have a very close relationship for sure.

    Carol,

Hope you enjoyed your Saturday night. The weather here was great so I went to a local music festival with my girlfriend.
