Focus on photography: Chema Madoz

black and white photography

From time to time I enjoy showcasing the work of others, and here’s a photographer I’ve been meaning to feature for some time now.

Quote from Wikipedia:

Jose Maria Rodriguez Madoz (born 1958), better known as Chema Madoz, is a Spanish photographer, most popular for his black and white surrealist photographs.

  1. you know what, David? I’ve launched my blog with the feature on Chema Madoz (after the regular welcome post). His work is surreal and real at the same time.

  2. Amazing David, I’m a big fan of stuff like this not really for the execution but more for the idea.

  3. How beautiful! I love images that make us look at ordinary things in new ways, and these are particularly stark and lovely.

  4. Good stuff, thanks for introducing me to his work. Stumbled.

  5. I love surrealist artists. Awesome stuff, man! I’ll have to bookmark this one.

  6. LOVE his work!!! Thanks so much for sharing!

  7. Vivien,

It’s no surprise you have a good taste in photography too. You beat me to this one, even if I hadn’t seen your post. Thanks for the link.

    Toon, Heather, Lyndon, PG, Ariane,

Thanks very much for stopping in, and I’m glad you enjoyed the post.

  8. The snippet you used from Wikipedia “Jose Maria Rodriguez Madoz (born 1958), better known as Chema Madoz, is a Spanish photographer, most popular for his black and white surrealist photographs.” was actually written by me when I realized that Chema did not have a wikipedia entry.

We studied him at the university and I always thought his work was fantastic. It is all about making the person think about reality and what that means. I wish I had more time for writing and research to create a better entry for him.

  9. Hi Igor,

Thanks for letting me know about that. I’ve referenced your writing above, and agree, it is a shame you don’t have more time to create a better entry. I’d do it too if I had some spare time for research, because I love his work.

  10. Wow! It’s one thing to be able to paint surreal work (I mean the type of mind you need to come up with that stuff!) and it’s another thing to be able to photograph it. That’s pretty incredible. I like it a lot. Thanks for sharing, David!

  11. You’re very welcome, Lauren.
