  1. Wow, that’s impressive work David! I know where to go if I need a flyer now. :)

  2. I’m really digging the Streetlife design. The great visual drew my eye to it immediately, nice work.

By the by, you certainly have a distinct style when it comes to placing type.

  3. I agree with the previous comment – I’m loving that Streetlife design. They’re all great. Thanks for sharing them with us. Can’t wait to see more of your work!

  4. I love the wire mesh backdrop – professional and yet slightly futuristic at the same time! I personally think that there should perhaps be less of an angle on the flyers themselves, as it screws with your eyes a little… ;)

    Great designs though! :)

  5. Excellent stuff, I wouldn’t of expected anything else.

Why not upload them to flickr too?

  6. The Call to Mind flyer is really nice! The minimalistic feel looks fab. I love designing flyers. They’re quick, fun projects especially when you have free reign to design whatever you want. I have a friend who is a promoter for a club so he keeps me busy designing flyers for his events from time to time. Right now I’m actually working on a redesign of an old flyer I did a few months back to put into my portfolio.

Keep the portfolio pieces coming, man. Anxious to see more!

  7. I agree with Paul, I like it that you didn’t use just a white bg or the actual digital artwork. Very nice presentation of your pieces.

As for the work itself, I love your typography! I don’t know anything about the clients you did the work for, but from what I read on the flyers and the art you used, I think your typography fits perfectly with the subject.

Personally, I struggle with designing flyers. It doesn’t help that I have to keep in mind my output, B&W printer without bleed capabilities. I have many good design ideas, but most need the color or the bleed, or both!

  8. Not what I would call original in style, but very attractive work. Did you do the backdrop for the street life one or is that a photo of someone else’s work? If you did it I’m officially impressed!

  9. Does originality necessarily make a design better?

  10. So do you get free entry into the Arches? ;)

  11. Thanks, folks. The backdrop for the Streetlife flyer is a photograph I took in Benicassim, Spain. I was camping at a music festival. Loved it.

Free entry to the Arches? Not in some time, Aaron. I wouldn’t say no.

  12. Really nice work David. I do like the Streetlife one a lot, likes others. Great to see some of your stuff:)

  13. Look very nice. I like the first one, which is more dramatic …. It catch my eyes.

Great works! You will make a lot of people shame on themselves. ;-)

  14. I like the 1st flyer design. The colours mix in well with each other.

  15. Great work David. Only suggestion I have is to try and tweak your site and include a link to a static page on the site that has your complete portfolio. If you look at the top of your site there is a small subsection that says “Graphic Design”. Under that title it simply says “Hire David Airey for graphic design.” I think that section needs to be tweaked with the first time visitor in mind. Sell yourself a little more in that section and include a link to a static page with your portfolio.

  16. Bret, I’ll be making those changes very soon. I didn’t want to have a static page for my portfolio until I have more of my designs uploaded. Thanks for your support and for pointing that out though. Much appreciated.

  17. You are a very gifted designer! Good stuff!!

  18. Wow, those are nice. Good work David! I like how you present them too, looks very professional and neat.

  21. That’s some cool design you got right there!! great type work.

  22. You really have cool work, have a lot of knowledge …. Thanks for showing us your work, and it’s a good example for students ….

  23. Great, great, and great. It’s all really great artwork and i Love all of them! streetlife caught most of our attention because of its dynamic colors, not saying the rest weren’t attractive enough. i’d love to learn those skills if only I had the chance. Envious :)

    Great blog. Keep it up!

  27. Wow, I really like the Call to Mind and the Streetlife designs. It’s been said over and over, but you really have a good eye for typography. I’d like to post those designs on Flyer Design Goodness if that’s cool with you.

  33. Awesome Work!

  34. ehm … Dave can we swop brain?
No harm, you’d only become a programmer and I a graphic designer.

  35. David

I think these are well done.

I can see clear use of a grid and they communicate well.

  36. David,

I like how you keep the leading minimal…it gives the type a more edgier look.

Did you design/illustrate the background for “streetlife” or did you purchase the image?

    jm

  37. Jasmine,

The Streetlife background is a photo I took at a Spanish music festival.

    Thanks for the visit.

  38. like the flyers. some good work there.

was just wondering how much you would charge for one of them?

    thanks!

  39. I’m not actually taking on new work at present, so I can focus on book-writing, but if you’re still interested after the summer, by all means get back in touch.

    All the best.

  40. Well ya see the thing is i also do some flyers for diff club nights but have never charged anyone for them. was just wonder what would somebody expect to pay.

not sayin i ever will cause i do them for mates but was just wondering?

    thanks again!

  41. The most straightforward way of working it out is to multiply the number of hours you spend on the design by your hourly rate. Calculating what you should charge per hour depends upon experience, skills etc. Good luck.

  42. ah sure ill see how i go anyway.

    thanks again!

  43. hi david,
been looking at this website for a long period of time and i really love your works and creativity. i am currently designing a business flyer and i am stuck.i have realised that it is different from designing other flyers..because there is a lot of info to be displayed and at the same time simplicity must be kept .please can you help me out……some websites or things i can find inspiration in will be great thanks a lot…

  44. sante, here’s some print design inspiration for you, courtesy of Smashing Magaizine. Hope it helps.

  45. Hey David, nice flyers! Check out my flyer design portfolio if you get time :) thanks.

  46. David, I love ur work and i even buy the book of logo design love it has been a great guide. David I would like to know how much roughly to charge to design a club flyer. ThanX 4 any tips in advance and keep rocking. ; )

  47. It varies depending on your experience and the scale of the project, David. Could be anywhere from £200 to £2,000. If you really have no idea, multiply your hourly rate by the time taken to acquire the client, draft a brief, brainstorm, create the design(s), and deliver/modify.

  48. thanks again!
