Thanks very much for the continued feedback. I remember having a number of issues with the kerning back when this was created. Mainly due to the all-caps use of Clarendon. Ultimately, the design needed to be shown at fairly small sizes (on locks, etc.) and when reducing the imagery, the legibility remains strong.

Hi David.
Well done on a fantastic logo. This concept works perfectly because it is so easy to read. Often when businesses assume the name of the owner they do little to say what they do or what they represent i.e. the name Davidson doesn’t describe what the business does. By incorporating the lock in the type the nature of the business is instantly understood. This idea is simple and easy to get which makes this a very successful logo. What is more the graphic element is incorporated into the type which makes the logo more versatile and functional.
One point of contention is the spacing or tracking between the characters. There seems to be a lot of space between the D, A and the V and very little between the I and the D. Perhaps a more consistent tracking would help make the logo read easier?? Just a minor point.
However this logo is a perfect example of a simple and clean design that doesn’t try to say or do too much. This makes it very distinctive, easy to understand and timeless. Furthermore the choice of font is well suited, the bold serif’s add a sense of stability and security, appropriate to a locksmiths business.

Love the logo design. I especially liked the angled text on the business card- it made me think of the rotation involved when opening a lock with a key. Great Job!

Excellent!

Not only a pleasing balance of design and space, but also a clever use of design element to serve as typography. Davidson Locksmith must be happy!

Hi Michael, there's no set number of hours needed. It might be 30 minutes, it might be six months. Whatever the time, don't sell yourself short. You have a skill your client wants.

David, great work and very inspiring work. Given your experience with logos design, would you say that there is a set number of hours put into each design? The reason I ask this is right after my clients ask my fee, the next question always seems to be how many hour will this take. Can you honestly give them a general quote without low balling yourself too much?

Hi Evelyn,

I agree. The kerning could be improved upon. Thankfully, this is one of my earlier logo designs, and I think I've learnt a fair bit since back then. Still a long way to go.

I hope your internship's going great, by the way.
