Celebrate your blog milestones

RSS icons

Today, with your help, I broke the 1,500 daily RSS readers barrier for the first time. Thank you! For those of you unsure what RSS is, here’s a short video:

I think it’s important to celebrate those little milestones that keep us going, and I’m sure that without your interaction and excellent comments I wouldn’t update my blog on such a regular basis.

FeedBurner subscriber count

At the time of writing, there are currently 234 blog posts here on davidairey.com, with a combined total of 3,941 excellent blog post comments. That’s an average of over 16 comments per article published.

By reflecting upon where we’ve been, we can see the progress made and set a clear path on where we want to be. Two of my goals are to keep providing content that you want to read, and to continually thank you for your participation and visits. My next month is a small step towards giving you something back, so if you haven’t yet, subscribe to my RSS feed and I’ll keep you updated.

Others who are celebrating milestones

  • Aaron, at Prime , recently published his 100th blog post. Keep it up, Aaron, and here’s to reaching the 500 mark.
  • Nate Whitehill, , recently relfected after reaching 500 RSS readers. Great job, Nate, and I have no doubt that you’ll breach 1,000 RSS readers in no time.
  • Dawud Miracle, , had one of his excellent blog articles reach number one spot on the front page of Netscape. Dawud, sorry the traffic brought your site down, but it’s further proof of your superb writing skills.
  • Brian Clark, , had his blog recently surpass 22,000 RSS subscribers. This is one of the very first blogs I subscribed to, and Brian, you’re a true expert.
  • Cynthia Friedlob, of , recently celebrated her blog’s one year anniversary. Cynthia, I visited your blog for the first time today, and it’s great to see you interact with your readers in the comments. Happy anniversary!

What milestones have you reached?

Perhaps there’s a milestone with your work or business that you’ve successfully reached, or maybe your blog has broken a barrier recently. The size of the milestone doesn’t matter. What matters is the progress you’re making. I remember the enjoyment at receiving my first blog comments, and the realisation that you actually read my humble words.

I’d love to know what progress you’re making, and it’d be great if you could share a few details by leaving a comment.

Better yet, why not publish a blog post about your milestones?

  1. David -

Woo hoo! What a terrific — and well deserved — milestone! My hat’s off to you.

I did a press release last year that brought 38,000 visitors to my site over the period of about 4 days, almost bringing my blog to its knees…but what fun that is!

    Cheers,
    Tammy

  2. First post posted on 01. August 2007. Until now I have collected 640 unique visits,
4 comments, 18 posts and I do not know how many RSS readers. This is huge result for me because I did not do this earlier. I hope that I will progress more in future. Also I know that the reason for no comments is that I only provide links to other pages. I will try to put more personal content on site and try to get readers to put there own thoughts and comments on. Just lack of experience and my poor English. Anyways, congratulations to you David and wish you luck in future.

  3. Tammy,

Thanks! You must be very well versed in press release writing then? I’ve been meaning to draft one or two for local media, but time has been of the essence.

    Nenad,

Personal content is key. Even if your blog is full of links to other sites, at least if you give your personal take on those resources you’re helping.

Be careful with your blog sidebar, which has been pushed to the bottom of the page. Something going on with the widths?

  4. Congratulations on the milestones. 1500+ RSS subscribers…wow! That’s fantastic. As for my milestones…everyday I meet my self-imposed publishing schedule is a milestone. :)

  5. Nice one David, I can remember when it was all fields ’round here…. ;-)

I too, have hit my highest number of RSS subs today spookily enough…..167

    I’ll get me coat.

  6. A great post. And inspiring to see your stats. A few weeks back I started an entirely new blog venture, drawing and posting a new political cartoon every day. So far I’ve been able to keep it up (23 days) and I’m looking forward to celebrating my 30 milestone. Knowing that you pretty much post daily is an inspiration.

  7. Congrats, David, though it’s not surprising ;) You have great content! Is it a wonder so many people crave to learn from you? :D

  8. Thanks Bret!

You’ve been a reader for some time now, and I appreciate it a lot.

    Chris,

Likewise, you’re an original ‘creative’. Well, since I moved from WordPress.com anyway. Oh those were the heady days! Congratulations on reaching new heights with Blog-Op!

    Nate,

Thank you kind sir. Nice job keeping the drawings going, and good luck with the milestone. It’s not easy keeping consistency up. At the beginning I felt I had to post every single day, but my perspective has changed a little and now it’s sometimes every other day.

    Lauren,

You’re too kind! Thanks very much for your visits and for keeping the discussion flowing.

  9. David - Thank you for the mention and encouragement. Congrats on your milestone as well, you can add me to that RSS number as of today.

With the amount of comments you receive on your posts, I admire the conversation and info sharing you generate with your blog. So cool. I’m looking forward to being more plugged-in with your expertise.

  10. Well Done, keep it up

  11. Congrats on the milestone David. 1,500 seems a long way away for me but I’ll catch you up sometime ;)

  12. Congrats on the milestones. It is funny, I just posted Statistics After 90 Days of Blogging this morning. I would like to say brilliant minds think alike, but I think I just got lucky.

Quick summary of my first 90 days:
    - over 11,000 views
    - 161 posts
    - 404 comments - some of them yours for which I thank you
    - Technorati Rank - 160 - some of these are related to Face Behind the Blog
    - Technorati Authority - 30,950

I think I initiated some good conversations and I have learned a lot. I have also made some great friends, yourself included. These last two are milestones that are a little harder to measure, but definitely important to me.

  13. Congratulations on your milestone David! I have a feeling we’ll be congratulating you on your 2000+ subscriber milestone soon. Nicely done.

  14. Congratulations on hitting such a big milestone! Well deserved. :D

My blog is just over 2 weeks old, so “milestone,” is probably a big word. Still, I passed 50 RSS subscribers this morning, and tomorrow will be my 20th post. Those are big milestones for me compared to where I was 2 weeks ago! xD

  15. Congrats on an achievement well deserved David!

I just passed the 1.5 month milestone (if that counts) with 25 posts under my belt. I’m looking forward to focusing on my agency full time in the coming weeks and being able to post more. Your work has been an inspiration and has certainly set the bar pretty high for aspiring creative bloggers like myself.

Keep up the great work! ;)

  16. I passed 15 readers on one of my sites recently… wow! :-)

Seriously, good work. Hopefully I can get there one day.

  17. Congrats to you! I just started reading your blog and have enjoyed every post I have read so far.

  18. Could Airey-Mania be far behind?

  19. I published my 300th post yesterday, which felt pretty great.

  20. What a nice surprise! Thanks, David, for mentioning my blogging anniversary. I’m delighted that you enjoyed visiting and hope you’ll come back frequently.

This is my first time visiting your blog and I’ve already learned a ton of useful information. I’ll look forward to reading your words of wisdom regularly. Congratulations on reaching over 1500 subscribers!

  21. Aaron W,

You’re very welcome for the encouragement. I hope you keep at it, and thanks very much for subscribing!

    Thomas,

I thought there was something odd about your Technorati stats, you mixed your rank with your authority. Give it another half a year or so before you reach a Technorati rank of 160. ;)

    Michael,

50 RSS subscribers in two weeks is great! Much faster than I achieved it. In fact, it was probably a few months before I got that far, so well done! You write some excellent content, so it’s no big surprise.

    Verne,

25 posts in around 6 weeks is a nice level of consistency. Pretty similar to what I’m doing here, and thanks very much for kind words.

    Aaron,

You can be easily forgiven for putting your feet up, and it’s great to know the new job is going well.

    Toon, Jess, Baron, Smojo,

Thank you! (Loving the Caribbean photos Smojo.)

    Ed,

    Haha, don’t hold your breath.

    Jeri,

That’s a great milestone! I know how much effort it involves, and you’re ahead of me where post numbers are concerned.

    Cynthia,

My pleasure, and that’s superb that you’ve learnt something here on my blog. Thanks!

  22. Wow congratulations. My RSS is somewhat okay but I am trying to increase it. Do you have some tips? And are you using a plugin to post related articles in each of your blog posts and those four links as well: Digg it, Stumble it and etc…

  23. Wow. that really is inspiring. I haven’t managed to sort out my RSS properly yet, but your post will motivate me

  24. Congratulations! You are far ahead from where I am right now. I just completed 100 posts in my first full year of blogging, and it felt good to make that milestone.

BTW, I liked your earlier post about making your blog reflect your personality.

  25. Hi, David! Congratulation! :)

I’ve just broke my 1000 Comments! Celebrating it may be is a good idea. That’s great to have that sum of subscribers. Hope to see you celebrating it again when you reach 2000 subscribers!

    Best Wish!

  26. David - I have reversed those scores before, but typically I catch myself before I post. I don’t know why my mind seems to have issues with those score titles. Thanks for the faith that I might actually reach a rank of 160. During the Technorai glitch, I did reach a rank of 1, but so did everyone else that had a rank of over 3 or 4.

  27. Thanks Chase,

To show related articles on each post, I use the ’similar posts’ Plugin for WordPress. It’s like the ‘related posts’ Plugin, only more straightforward to implement.

The social tags (Digg, Stumble, del.icio.us) are FeedBurner feed flares. Do you use FeedBurner for your RSS feed? I recommend it, and the flares are quite easy to set up too.

    Shantanu,

Congratulations on passing your 100th blog post! Have you set any goals for the next year?

    Ken,

1,000 comments? Great job! I think that comments, and reader interaction are the lifeblood of blogs, and what blogging is all about. May you attract many more.

    Thomas,

I totally missed the whole number one Technorati glitch. I wonder just how many people updated their ReviewMe stats during that time.

  28. Congratulations David.!

I am about to get to the 150 posts mark. and 50 rss readers.

Will let you know once i get there.

  29. Congratulations on the big 1.5!

I hit the 1 Grand Mark at my own blog this month.

Birthdays the end in “0″ or “5″ tend to get celebrated a bit more heavily — is the same true of RSS subscribers?

    :)

Best wishes, and many happy return subscribers!

  30. rAm, Laura,

Thanks very much. Congrats to you both too, for your respective milestones.

    Keep it up!

  31. Awesome David - your subscriber count is most impressive.

  32. That’s great news, David! I’m very happy I found your site as I’ve really enjoyed your content. You’ll be celebrating 2000 soon, I’m sure.

  33. Randa, Patrick,

Thanks very much! It’s a real pleasure to have you as readers.

  34. In focus, lifehacked, and rollin’ rollin’ rollin’…

In light of all this freelancerness, I wanted to draw your attention over to the Graphic Design Blog where I am the latest specimen under examination as part of a weekly segment called ‘Freelancer Focus’.
