bla.st - the free card directory

I’m not one to advertise a third party unless I think it’s a valuable service for you, so this is one worth a look in my opinion. It’s called ‘bla.st‘ (that’s the UK directory, which you can change while there) and it’s a website where you can upload your business card for free to let others find you.

Chris gave a good description of it here at his Blog-Op site.

Basically, the sooner you upload your card, the higher in the ‘free’ rankings you’ll be (which is quite high at present, especially if you have a niche product or service). You can of course pay to be at the top, but if you take a look you’ll see what I mean.

I put my card up for free about an hour ago (which appears ‘big’ in the ‘new cards’ section shown above) and have had quite a few hits already. Whether or not this will continue once my card is no longer the ‘big’ one we’ll just have to see. I’ll let you know should I have any success.

It only took about five minutes, and there are some atrociously designed cards as competition, some nice ones too, so trying to stand out requires some thought.

  1. Hey David, glad it was useful to you (& thanks for the link)

Email them with the link to this review & they’ll add $0.02 a day to your card as a thank you which will help push you up further :-)The link is about halfway down their blog page.

I can see that my free 2c has put me on the front page, about 4 lines down!

  2. Oh thanks Chris. I’d probably not have noticed that. Email sent.

Your post about upgrading to WP 2.1 prompted me into action. I was on edge during the quick process from WP 2.0.4 but got there in the end, with only a couple of minutes of layout disruption.

  3. Hi David, thanks for the kind words about blast, its much appreciated. Your site and card both look great BTW!
I’ve added this page to the list of bla.st press mentions:

  4. A comment from the man himself! Tim didn’t comment on mine [sulks]. ;-)

Upgrading’s a bit scary, but so easy it’s untrue. I only realised afterwards that I could have upgraded with one click using Fantastico on my hosting package…Still, I think I prefer to keep close control of my themes and plugins.

  5. Good luck with the venture Tim.
  6. Great tip, interesting concept, I’ll be spreading the word on this one also.

    Thanks,
