I wholly agree with the drop test picture above first off.

I remember the same amazement I experienced at the clear cassettes. And call me old fashioned if you will, but espcially if you bought cassettes of older albums designed like that and then you saw what the original cassette looked like when the album was first released, I found that it kinda killed my buzz to an extent.

My question, as long winded as it no doubt is to some, is this:
More so with pre-recorded cassettes than blanks, and this has been a curiosity of mine for some time, why did the designs change so mush over time, i.e. the change from the (1)label on the cassette which I thought looked cool, (2)cream/grey/white to black shells on which the print could easily be rubbed off in some cases, and (3) what purpose did the clear cassette shells serve?

Soem people I know, and even certain internet trading sites, are making 'value comparisons' on cassettes similar to those of original and newer pressings of older lps.

Hello Dawn,

Thanks for commenting, and drawing my attention back to this old blog post. A little cassette tape nostalgia is always good. :)

This entry caught my eye right away when I saw the cassette. I remember making mix tapes on my little fisher stereo ! I also remember a friend that tried to hook up christmas lights to it. Ummmm, not so good. Think SMOKE !

For years and years I have dreamed of having enough energy to try to catalog the contents of my 100+ casette tapes. I still haven't motivated myself. But I just can't let them go! :)

I'm not quitting the blog, no. I enjoy the interaction too much.

I mean using davidairey.com as opposed to davidairey.com/blog, but obviously that'll be a slight set-back.

There are some bigger changes afoot, ilker.

I'll be mentioning it soon, and I think it'll involve a move out of the 'blog' directory.
