By "becoming less concerned" what I mean is that I don't let it bother me as much as I once did when I delete a comment from the moderation queue. So you could say I'm now picky than ever.

Good luck with the Illustrative Style portfolio launch.

I see, I have gotten to the point where i care less anymore as well. I Just hoped that some of the great icons such as yourself were a little more picky with such stuff. I don't do it out of respect, however I do post on forums and twitter.

I am more of a person who feels that respect is earned with a great website, rather than begging borrowing and cheating my way to the top.

I don't have my portfolio up because I am so busy working with clients I haven't had a chance to put one together, Im actually working on it right know in between projects.
here's the latest website i have designed
http://www.ocd-symptoms.com
I created everything from scratch, tell me what you think :)

Hello Charlotte,

Comment moderation is an important part of blog authoring, and as time goes by, I become less concerned about pressing "delete." It can be very obvious when someone is simply commenting for self-promotion.

On another note, David doesn’t it bother you that certain designers pretend to be following your articles and then slide in their URL to kind of steal a portion of your fame from you.

It’s really sad as I watch no talent designers who learned word press overnight and then decide to call themselves graphic designers, they steal others domains or use their domain as a story headline or keyword.

Just too all the not so bright people out there, David has no follow set; so even if you have a link in here in the comment section it does nothing for you PR.
I guess I am a little bit more sensitive about people copying my work, but David you have been around forever you are a legend you have books out and stuff.

Don't let low life designers use you or your name to get bigger, because once they rise to the top there main goal is to squish you. I never knew who the hell Jacob Cass was until he rode on my domain, since someone stole yours I’m sure you know how it feels.

He’s only been online for 3 years and has managed to copy every other designer’s style and way of doing things; he ranks by leeching off of popular blogs such as yours. Every article you make he makes a similar one and then post a link on your site to it.

Sometimes it takes an outsider looking in to point out the obvious, I don’t care anymore that he’s riding on my domain what disturbs me is he gets so much attention from being a leech not a good designer, He writes articles that make absolutely no sense! For instance being a good speller has nothing to do with design. He’s a man who uses pink as a base color in his website that should ring a bell.

Not to mention that Jacobs site is so similar to yours its uncanny, does he think for himself or does he steal all his great ideas from you David?

Just wondering how much do you think the lady in the green scarf's logo was commissioned for. This the popular logo in the movie confessions of a shop-a-holic, just wondering how much a really good concept would cost a company.

Why are so many designers willing to sell out for $100 bucks when they could be selling gold?

Yes it did, and my apologies for the time it took me to respond. It is very important to brand yourself as a business and that means understanding what your mission is as a designer and what the mission is of the businesses you would like to work with.

Thanks,
Avery

Hi Avery,

Thanks for dropping by.

You asked, "How important is it for designers to have their own 'logo'?".

It's all a matter of consistency. If you're forever changing how you appear to your target audience, you'll dilute brand recognition, which will hinder sales. Being consistent can include using your own logo for a long period of time.

I hope that answers your question?

Hey David,

Great observations here. I've been searching for an article like this one for a while now since I've just re-done <a href="http://asmith3.com/" rel="nofollow">my portfolio</a> site after not updating the <a href="http://asmith3.com/__OldWebsite/" rel="nofollow">original flash site</a> for a couple years.

I knew I wanted to not be as flash-dependent with this version, which meant giving myself a crash course in html, xhtml, CSS, and a little java scripting. One of the things I kept reminding myself is that I wanted my site to be clean but to show an accute attention to typography and composition (these being two skills I value highly) and more than being an example of my skills in itself have it work as a non-competitive backdrop for my work which varies in style and media.

I do have a question for you, While I consider myself to be competent in branding businesses and other organizations. How important do you think it is for designers to have their own unique "logo"? Is it smart for a designer to "brand" themselves underneath a single mark when their career requires their talent to be flexible and versatile to multiple artistic and typographical movements? Might be over-thinking this a bit but I would like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks.
